I dealt with several realtors during the process and most are completely incompetent. The pay structure is set up so that their only interest is in bringing in more clients for more checks. Providing the best service is secondary. I sold my house on craigslist in a week as a FSBO. No realtors necessary. You can bet I won't ever use one again. If I had to for some reason I would insist on receiving most of their commission check in the form of a rebate. If they didn't oblige, I would just find someone who would.
